6.4 Definitions
Binder
-
Thread spirally wound with a long lay and low pickage.
Lay
-
The length measured along the axis of a wire or cable required for a single
conductor (in cable) to make one complete turn about the axis of the cable.
Tinsel wire
-
A low voltage stranded wire with each strand consisting of a very thin
conductor; metallic conductor is spirally wrapped around a flexible textile yarn
or plastic core.
6.5 Environmentally preferable material. Environmentally preferable materials should be used to the
maximum extent possible to meet the requirements of this specification. Table VII lists the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) top seventeen hazardous materials targeted for major usage reduction. Use of
these materials should be minimized or eliminated unless needed to meet the requirements specified
herein (see Section 3).
