4.9 Repairs.
4.9.1 Stranded conductor splices. Conductor strand splices shall conform to the requirements of 3.4.1.
4.9.1.1 Copper strands. Copper strand splices shall conform to the requirements of 3.4.1.1.
4.9.1.2 Steel strands. Test the steel strand joint to determine that the tensile strength of the strand
containing the joint is equal to not less than 35 percent of the average tensile strength of the strand
adjacent to the joint (see 3.4.1.2).
4.9.2 Insulation repairs. Test specimens of repaired insulation to determine compliance with the
requirements of 3.4.2.
4.9.3 Jacket repairs. Jacket repairs shall be in accordance with the contracting officer's written
approval (see 3.4.3).
4.9.4 Visual and mechanical inspection. Equipment shall be examined for the defects listed in table VII
and meet the requirements of 3.5.
